Literacy alive!
light it up blue
Literacy Alive! is Kappa Delta Pi’s signature service initiative that invites members to create programs and events in their communities that bring empowering literacy skills to their participants. With international impact, Literacy Alive! has been appropriately named to reflect the program’s energizing growth and tremendous possibilities!
For the past two decades, Kappa Delta Pi has led an effort among our 40,000 members to participate in Literacy Alive! Activities range from a simple book drive for a community center or a literacy program at a local library to specialty projects that work with disadvantaged children, military families, and victims of natural disaster. The ability to read is an incredible skill that impacts everyone.

The Kappa Eta Chapter recognizes autism awareness as its main philanthropy. As pre-service teachers, it is important to learn about autism and promote autism awareness to better our future classrooms.
Our Annual Light It Blue campaign at St. John's University includes service, fundraising, and social events to promote autism awareness and to also raise money for Autism Speaks. In the past, our campaign included events such as a barbeque and talent show, a parent speaker, a Zumba fundraiser, and a service component at two local day cares. The Light It Up Blue campaign at St. John's University was extremely successful. Throughout all of our fundraising efforts we were able to present Autism Speaks with over two thousand five hundred dollars. Our service, fundraising, and social events during our Light It Up Blue campaign left us knowledgeable and increased our desires to make a difference in the lives of those with autism.
