Fundraising

The Fundraising Committee is an integral part of the Kappa Eta Chapter at St. John's University. It supplies our chapter with the funds it needs to carry out service events and provide members with the necessary tools to become effective educators.  Members of the Fundraising Committee are responsible for developing creative and effective fundraisers, as well as taking the lead on executing these fundraisers. Our goal is to ensure that the Kappa Eta Chapter can be self-sustaining and continue to make a difference in the St. John's Community and the success of its members.

Programming

The Programming Committee is a major part of what makes Kappa Delta Pi a society that constantly gives knowledge, opportunity, and connections. This particular committee will be in charge of brainstorming, planning, and even facilitating the events that our chapter, Kappa Eta will hold for our fellow classmates and professors. As a member of this committee, you will be the brains and effort behind the scenes of what makes our chapter successful. By successful, I mean meeting the expectations of preparing the members of our chapter for entering the world of education with knowledge and confidence. Active members of this committee will prepare proposals for events such as professional development, service, and social, to be presented to the executive board. The programming committee is aimed to make sure our members, and students of the School of Education are satisfied with the seminars. service opportunities, and connections being offered to them.

Alumni & Graduate

The goal of the Alumni and Graduate Committee is to provide an open line of communication between KDP former graduate students and current students in hopes to create a strong relationship between the two. Through this established communication, we will be able to share our chapter's accomplishments throughout the semester, as well as upcoming events. By creating a biweekly email newsletter, students and alum will be updated on how they can be involved with our chapter throughout the year.  We would like to represent KDP as a great professional development resource for our alumni and students, which will be achieved by having workshops and seminars readily available for all past and present members. Most importantly, our KDP chapter should be seen as an opportunity for career planning, professional growth, and career networking. As a member of the Alumni/Graduate Committee, there are four expectations:First, to be a part of the event planning process by contributing ideas, planning, and carry out events.Second, be part of the alumni reach-out process by contributing to the Graduate Biweekly Newsletter Email. This includes reviewing KDP workshops available online or writing about experiences in the classroom.Third, attend and participate in KDP workshops and seminars and fourth be a resource for current graduate members and alumni to connect them to what KDP has to offer by willing to answer questions and follow up with students/alumni.

Light It Up Blue

The Light It Up Blue Committee is crucial to the success of the Kappa Eta Chapter’s main philanthropy of autism awareness. Members of the Light It Up Blue Committee will work with leaders throughout the university in the development and execution of various programs, fundraisers and activities. A major goal of this committee is to increase awareness of autism within our St. John's University community and to create informative events that will help our members’ obtain knowledge that will in turn help them serve our future students and community members. Another goal is to raise funds for the Autism Speaks foundation so more research and services can take place.

Membership

The maintenance of a healthy and successful honor society depends on communication between the executive board and general body. The goal of the membership committee is to reach out to every member in the Kappa Eta chapter.  Every member in the committee is asked to keep in contact with the general body of the society so as to make them feel like they are a part of our family. Through this relationship, we also learn what they expect of us, what they want to see happen, and what kind of workshops they believe are necessary for current and future educators.  We strive to encourage all active and prospective members to attend our workshops, support our philanthropies, and provide their services in our community. Our committee works together as a team to ensure that we contact every member and maintain a close relationship with them. Apart from sustaining a strong relationship with our general body, we also seek to encourage more educators to join our society in the hopes of helping them become even better teachers.

Social Media & Historical

The Social Media Committee is an essential component of the Kappa Eta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi. This Committee allows its participants the ability to be in constant contact within not only the School of Education at but our entire university.  The committee is able complete such a task by interacting with the public with the use of multiple Social Media outlets. The sources of Media that we use are Facebook, Instagram, this Website, Semester bulletins, and our Kappa Eta bulletin boards.  In today’s day and age social media is a very important competent of our lives, especially those of college students. This media is used for instant communication, as a news source, and a means to express interest. Which is why this committee is so important. Members of this committee will  be actively working towards  the success and expansion of Kappa Delta Pi- Kappa Eta. As a member, one will have to actively engage the community by grabbing attention, appealing to interest and providing a plethora of information. All this broadcasted for everyone’s viewing. Our purpose is to not only to inform our fellow School of Education students of the happenings within Kappa Delta Pi- Kappa Eta, but to expand our community and reach more than just the St. Johns population.

Literacy Alive!

Frederick Douglass once stated, “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” Literacy is an extremely vital part in a child’s education. When a child is able to read it will allow them to travel to the great unknown, learn about different places and find themselves lost in a story. Think back to a time when a story was so intriguing that it was impossible to put it down? The belief that reading is fun and enjoyable stems from our childhood. Literacy Alive! is an event run by Kappa Delta Pi – Kappa Eta that allows college students to go into a classroom and teach students to love reading. The Literacy Alive! committee works diligently to provide the best lessons possible for students in our community. We want children to realize that literacy is learning while having fun! As a committee, we will work together to come up with lesson plans, helping prepare materials for each classroom, and facilitating the actual lessons in front of several age groups. This includes interacting with current New York State educators in the field.  The lesson plans are aimed to be captivating and fascinating to each student, which will be rewarding to not only themselves but to our committee.
